Invisible Theater – Patronato San Xavier

Join Us for an Afternoon of Theater

Saturday, December 14 – 2 pm

Proceeds from this performance will go to conservation priorities at Mission San Xavier

We partner with Invisible Theater to present an afternoon with playwright/actor Fred Pitt in his autobiographical performance of:

“Aren’t you…?”

As a student of the history of Californian Missions, Pitt embarks on a journey that will take him to every site; from Mission San Francisco Solano in Sonoma to San Diego de Alcala in San Diego. Along the way, he discovers that his presence as a black man on a mission site leads to some humorous cases of mistaken identity.

A discussion with the playwright and actor will follow the performance.

About Fred Pitt:  The San Francisco-based actor has been performing in the Bay Area for over 20 years at regional theaters such as Shotgun Players, African-American Shakespeare Company, Custom Made Theatre, Contra Costa Civic Theatre and Exit Theatre, among others. Pitts also racked up numerous screen credits while somehow managing to maintain an alternate career as an Emergency Medicine Physician for over two decades. In fact, he is still a licensed physician, currently working in the field of drug safety.

From the Critics:

While humorous, Arent You…? is also a timely examination of both conscious racism and unconscious bias.
Amani Hamed, Metro Silicon Valley

Arent You…? Entertaining blend of history, architecture, and humor. The stage is bare, with merely a stool and a screen for projections, but nothing more is needed; Pittss likable persona, acting chops and carefully wrought sory is enormously satisfying.
Jean Shiffman, Local News Matters

Arent You…? is a comedy wrapped in a history lesson wrapped in a study of bias wrapped in a unique piece of theatre.
